Beauty in the city vibes, waking through the streets, local markets, daily life happenings, Arusha's different markets, unofficial guide for the day, Maasai medicine, Maasai market, not being able to resist, hidden places and views, rooftop sights and buying Kanga's

To be honest, as a city itself Arusha isn't that beautiful. But the vibes there are amazing! Walking through the streets and markets is always one of my favourite things to do in every country. That's where the daily lives happen and these scenes can tell me a lot about the local's way of life and cultures.
Arusha has quite a few markets and we covered some of them by foot.
Kariakoo Market was full of clothes, shoes, bags and many other accessories. It's loud and crowded here, locals selling their products and merchandise, shoppers roaming around, dealing and haggling going on left and right. Just what I love! 😃
At Central Market we found a lot of spices, vegetables, fruits, meet and also household utensils. In this market we came along a stand with two Maasai selling their traditional medicine. We were recommended some "Ondemwai oil" for our skin and Gina's insect bites. I have yet to try mine. 😄 But I love these kind of things, it's truly amazing what we can do with nature's help!
It's totally normal that locals come up to us to either just have a chat or sell us something. That's how we met Erik at the Central Market. He just came up to us, started a conversation and started to walk with us, explaining and showing us different things. And just like that, we've got ourselves a guide for the day. 💁🏼♀️
By the way, he also offers different tours, safaris and hikes. Contact him to get more info, he's a great and funny guy!

We also passed the Maasai Market where I couldn't resist to buy one of the beautiful paintings I already noticed several times. I probably overpaid for it but it's definitely worth it! Gina couldn't help herself neither and bought some bracelets and earrings from the Maasai women. As it just started to rain heavily when we reached the market, the women were sitting under the roofs and were working on creating new bracelets and other accessories. It's really fascinating to watch them work on such beautiful pieces! 😍
Having an unofficial local guide with us definitely had its perks too. Not only did he explain a lot of things, he also showed us places we would have never found ourselves!
Like that time where we went to a café bar, walking through a building and up the stairs and finding ourselves on a balcony with direct view over the Arusha bus station. Yes, the best spot to just observe! Or a while later where we found ourselves on a rooftop with the view over half the city, looking at Mount Meru and again the Arusha bus station.

It's very easy to spend the day in Arusha, discovering the city by foot, meeting locals everywhere and getting lulled into buying different things. Like these two beautiful Kanga's! 😁
